Do you know how to turn on your Chromebook’s backlit keyboard, turn it off, or adjust the backlight brightness?

It’s easy – once you know how.

To adjust the brightness of a backlit keyboard on a Chromebook you need to hold the Alt key and tap the screen brightness up/screen brightness down keys. Each press will increase/decrease the intensity of your keyboard backlight.

Not sure which keys I mean?

The screen brightness keys on Chromebook’s look like this:

You can use these keys to control brightness

Press alt and tap one of these keys to change the intensity of your keyboard backlit.

This simple (if little-known) key-combination works on all Chromebooks with backlit keyboards. This includes the Google Pixelbook series, the Acer Chromebook Spin 13, the Asus Chromebook Flip C434, and most newer models.

Of course, if your Chromebook does not have a backlit keyboard to start with then this keyboard shortcut won’t do anything. While helpful it can’t magic LEDs out of thin air!

So that’s that; you know how how to turn on the backlit keyboard and even turn it off entirely (just dial brightness always down). It’s def one of the Chromebook keyboard shortcuts every owner should know.
